Throughout the arch of Hamlet, we see a cast of characters navigate the dualities of a world where appearances are everything and the dirty, often disappointing reality of what is. As a design team, it was important to us to create contrast between the grand and powerful court and gritty, dingy reality that upholds the facade.
Lighting supports this journey beginning with the set mounts and footlights, inspired by search lights and watch towers. Audiences experiences arch of the in two ways; we begin with warm incandescent fixtures to evoke the family's power that is then contrasted with florescent lighting during moments of betrayal and madness.
